Summer School 2025

In cooperation with the Sussex English Academy, The Cambridge Institute offers an intensive two-week course in August for children and teenagers aged 11–18, available at two levels (B1 for lower secondary students and B2 for upper secondary students). This course provides an ideal way to ease back into school after the summer holidays.

Unlike traditional “summer camps,” our focus is placed on developing all language skills (speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar), with an emphasis on practical training and active communication. While our goal is to make the most of the time in our Summer School and ensure significant progress, we also make sure that fun is not neglected.

Our program also prepares students for the Cambridge English exams, which offer an internationally recognized certificate upon successful completion of the course. This boosts students’ confidence and helps prepare them for the Austrian final school-leaving exam (Zentralmatura), which follows a very similar format.

Lesen Sie nach - Sprechen Sie mit uns!

Our Summer School, unlike many other summer language courses, is a comparatively academically-oriented program. Therefore, we do not include typical activities (such as sports sessions) in the afternoon, but instead focus on linguistic development. We place great emphasis on further building language skills and fostering the individual strengths of the participants. At the same time, we aim to spark the children's interest in the English language in an international environment. Nevertheless, fun is, of course, not overlooked!

Why take an exam at the end?

At the end of the Summer School, we offer children and teenagers the unique opportunity to take a Cambridge English exam directly at our institute.

A Cambridge English exam is a great way to make learning visible and reinforce what has been learned. The exam preparation is intended to motivate students to work toward a clear goal, thereby enhancing their willingness to learn throughout the entire course. Thanks to the international standard of the Cambridge exams, students receive objective feedback on their English level (B1 or B2) and are also prepared for the format of the Austrian final school exam (Zentralmatura). The globally recognized certificate is a valuable addition to their educational path and helps boost the candidates’ confidence.

The exam is not mandatory but is highly recommended for the reasons mentioned above.

Cambridge B1 Preliminary for Schools

A B1 Preliminary for Schools qualification shows that a student has mastered the basics of English and now has practical language skills for everyday use. B1 Preliminary for Schools is targeted at the same CEFR level as B1 Preliminary but with content aimed at school-age learners rather than adults.

A B1 Preliminary for Schools qualification shows that a student can:

  • read simple textbooks and articles in English
  • write letters and emails on everyday subjects
  • understand factual information
  • show awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English
Cambridge B2 First for Schools

A B2 First for Schools qualification shows that a student has the language skills they need to communicate in an English-speaking environment. B2 First for Schools is targeted at the same CEFR level as B2 First but with content aimed at school-age learners rather than adults.

The educational standards in Austria specify B2 as the target level to be achieved for the general university entrance qualification through the Zentralmatura.

A B2 First for Schools qualification shows that students can:

  • communicate effectively face to face, expressing opinions and presenting arguments
  • write clear, detailed English, expressing opinions and explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different points of view
  • follow and understand the news
  • write letters, reports, stories and lots of other types of text
